The project consisted of 90% re-development of an existing school. This project is composed of 57 acres of land and is home to an existing high school known as South Dade Senior High School.
SSA was the Civil Engineer responsible for the design, permitting and construction of all the infrastructure for the development site and adjacent roadways. Numerous water & sewer mains as well as the construction of a water tank and sanitary sewer reservoirs were installed so that the school could also service as a future hurricane and emergency shelter for the local community. These included the installation of 2,187 LF of 8” DIP water main to provide adequate fire protection and domestic water supply for the proposed development. Design services also entailed the design of 1,806 LF of 8” PVC gravity sewer mains, intersection improvements including pavement transitions, pavement channelization, traffic signage, sidewalks, signalization, paving and grading.
Drainage improvements were necessary to upgrade the existing playing fields (football, baseball, soccer, & track). The proposed drainage system consisted of a series of interconnected inlets and 3,510 LF of French drains.
Off-site improvement plans were developed for SW 288th Street & SW 167th Avenue to increase access to the campus and to provide additional level of service on the adjacent roads. Furthermore, the project entailed relocating and replacing 265 LF of asbestos cement water main that was in conflict with the proposed road work along SW 288th Street.
