About Us
Schwebke-Shiskin & Associates, Inc. (SSA) was founded as Harry C. Schwebke & Associates in 1947. The firm started as a small surveying practice opened by Harry Schwebke. At the beginning, Harry took part in the post-war development boom as a “seabee” — building bases, paving roadways and airstrips, and working on a wide variety of military projects. Harry’s son, Bob, took over the firm a few years later. In the early 1950s, two brothers — Richard Shiskin and James Shiskin — became the firm’s first associates licensed in both land surveying and civil engineering. Following that, the firm evolved into Schwebke-Shiskin & Associates, Inc. by adding civil engineering to its expanding surveying and land planning services.
Over the next several decades, the firm grew from a handful of employees to well over 100 professionals, technicians, crews, and administrative support staff. The firm worked on many projects for the Army Corps of Engineers, Miami-Dade County, Florida Department of Transportation, and several large private developers. SSA was involved in the planning and development of many commercial and residential projects, filing in excess of one thousand plats. SSA’s work included very large scale multi-developments that created the cores of local communities including Country Walk, Pembroke Lakes, the Town of Miami Lakes, and the City of Sunrise.
With over 70 years of experience in the construction industry, SSA has evolved into a multi-disciplinary firm offering complete professional services in land surveying, civil engineering, utilities engineering, general consulting engineering, and construction engineering inspections. Our ability to provide integrated services has cultured a broader-based understanding of infrastructure and development among our staff.
Our diverse experience is demonstrated not just by our successful track-record, but also by the high level of complexity of the projects we have performed both nationally and throughout the region. Our team’s knowledge base is unmatched when it comes to roadway, stormwater management, water & sewer design, and land surveying projects in South Florida.
