Skyrise Miami

Commercial

This project was a 990-ft entertainment tower against the Miami skyline which encompasses popular retail stores, a variety of dining options and bars, meeting and conference space, a grand ballroom, and exciting attractions — the Sky Plunge, the Sky Drop, and an observation deck offering unparalleled views.

The project site was a peninsula, bounded on three sides by Biscayne Bay. Prior to the start of construction, it was necessary to re-route all utilities in the area to maintain service to the adjacent neighbors – Bayside Marketplace and the Miamarina. Additional measures were taken to assure governmental agencies that an adequate level of service for both fire protection and stormwater drainage could be provided for the project while it was still under construction.

The design of this project consisted of four drainage wells connected to four 30”-diameter outfalls that discharged into Biscayne Bay. Design challenges included utility coordination and installation of essential services in a highly congested and confining utility corridor in the heart of Miami’s urban core. Other design considerations included coordinating utility conflicts with structural members on a very restrictive site and the proximity of the water table to the finished grade elevation.
