Terra Environmental Research Institute

Educational

Terra Environmental Research Institute was Miami-Dade County’s first LEED-certified high school. The project consisted of the re-development of an existing school. The project is composed of 178,000 square foot Miami-Dade County Senior High School on a 17 acres site, also known as Terra Environmental Research Institute. The project area, including roads and other improvements, was approximately 30 acres of land.

SSA was the Civil Engineer responsible for the design, permitting and construction for all the infrastructure for the development site and adjacent roadways. Design services included 1,047 LF of 12” DIP and 2,117 LF of 8” DIP water mains both connected to two existing 12” water mains. In addition to the above, 77 LF of 6” DIP water main was constructed to provide service to fire hydrants and fire lines, and 31 LF of 4” DIP water main utilized for domestic services. The purpose of these main extensions was to provide adequate fire protection and domestic water supply for the proposed development. The project also consisted of 551 LF of 8” PVC gravity sewer main and the construction of 5 manholes to service the proposed buildings. Also, stormwater management modeling software (ICPR) was used to determine stages generated by a theoretical 10-year storm event for flood analysis of the development and for adjacent roadways.
